After 7 years and 6 funded projects, I'm withdrawing from water trail work.  Too much politics for me.

Water trail task force.  Not on it anymore.  FRT scoring committee.  Not on it anymore.  I leave you with this contact information, and wish all those involved in water trails the best.  You are doing good work.

 Water Trails in Iowa

From DOT, with the encouragement to distribute to interested parties.

The projects funded at the September 13 DOT commission meeting comprise funding that would have been awarded with the October 1, 2005 application cycle. The next federal recreational trail application cycle is scheduled for October 1, 2006.

I would encourage applicants that were not successful in the May 13, 2005 application cycle to apply for funding to the Transportation Enhancement Program. The Transportation Enhancement application deadline is October 1, 2005 - You’ll find contact information for the Transportation Enhancement program below.

To end on a positive note, there will be a State Recreational Trail application cycle January 2, 2006. There will be approximately $500,000 available. Details concerning both the State Recreational Trails Program and the Federal Recreational Trails can be found at the Federal Recreational Trail application website listed below however; the State Recreational Trail application information is not currently up-to-date, it will be updated soon.

Federal Recreation Trail applications and other information may be obtained from the Iowa Department of Transportation’s website at http//www.sysplan.dot.state.ia.us/fedstate_rectrails.htm,
